The Shoebox Project: Photos from December

We've finally got some photos of the Burmese Refugee Children Christmas Party held on 18 December 2009, after a long wait! Thank you to all our wonderful contributors who ensured that no child went home empty-handed. The initial request was for 172 presents, but we received over 300 presents in the end, which meant that the extra presents could be distributed to children from other vulnerable communities. Some of you may not be able to recognise your presents, as the other volunteers and I have wrapped and decorated the boxes that were not wrapped. The age of the children in this particular community school range from 6 to 16. The final two photos are of the teens. As you can see, your kindness brought them a lot of joy. For many of them, it is probably the first time they have received a Christmas gift.

I'm glad out of shoeboxes we brought smiles to these kids.Such warm memories to last a lifetime. Great job, Ee Lynn and everyone!! Hope this year Santa brings shoeboxes again:)))

Thanks, Keats! You were one of my first Santas to respond. What joy you gave the children! And imagine, maybe 10 - 12 years from now, these children will be giving Christmas shoeboxes to other children who are as deprived and needy as they had themselves once been...

I can't describe how I feel when I see those smiling faces.

It didn't kill me to put together the boxes, and it was too easy to wrap them.

And now, I see the happiness on those faces, and I wish I could've done more.

Now I'm really looking forward to this year's project!

I know, Pat! That's how I feel too! Such simple inexpensive gifts, so easy for us to make them and give them away, yet what a large impact our simple gifts made in the lives of these children!

CO78,
I wanta a box too! Either that or a suitcase, OK? You know, we cats love playing with boxes. No need for expensive presents for us, just simple cardboard boxes....purrr....meow!

Dear Kitties-in-Sydney,
Okay, I'll save all my biggest, sturdiest cardboard boxes for you! My Rowdies have A4 paper storage boxes to sleep in and a bigger PC box to play in.

Thank you for your comment, Datin Mamasita! One or two boxes from each friend adds up to hundreds of boxes, equals hundreds of happy children. We reached out to so many deprived children this year, and now they have faith that the world is full of good people who care about them.

Thank you for your kind offer, Shamaine. You can keep in touch with me via my other blog, which you will find when you click on my profile. I keep my friends updated on latest projects there. This year I would like the emphasis to be on needy refugee families and have devised a way to ensure we get food and other aid to the families in greatest need in the shortest time. Will keep you updated! Do drop by. Thanks again.

Hi there,
Its nice to see that you are helping the needy. I am a journalist with an online portal and want to do some stories on the hardcore poor in KL. Was wondering if you can help introduce me to some families who wouldnt mind being featured.
Do email me at christine.chan.cm@ gmail.com

thanks
